The name Lower Slaughter in Old English means ‘muddy place’. There’s a peaceful stream that runs through the village and ends with the water mill.

The water mill is the local attraction which is converted into a gift shop with local crafts as well as a tea room.

The Slaughters Manor House

The Slaughters Manor House is a charming 17th Century manor house.

  • 1004 A.D. It is known that a manor house stood on the site.

  • 1443. The Manor became a convent for nuns .

  • 1603. The Manor was returned to the crown

  • 1611. was granted to the High Sheriff of Gloucestershire.

  • 1964. The Manor became a hotel.

  • 2011. The property was purchased by Andrew Brownsword Hotels
